27:01
Lung ultrasound in complex lung disorders.
This will be a VERY BORING TALK only for people who wish to dissect the intricacies of B line formation, the controversies over settings and the various times when B lines will let you down. It is a conflation of recent literature dives for other presentations. The talk will focus on using other simple ultrasound tricks to make best guesses as to the origin of the beast in front of you, and suggest some avenues for further research.

Who’s afraid of the big, bad… appendix
It’s 10pm, and you’re in Kids’ Corner of ED. It’s nearly handover, and you still have 5 children with abdominal pain to sort out. The surgical registrar is in bed, only to be disturbed for urgent operations. Surely there’s something you can do at the bedside to help you decide their disposition?

29:26
SLICE Protocol
The SLICE protocol used to be called 'JB's RUSH for Dummies' until Lorena Zhang the SSP trainee came up with a more professional acronym: 'Shocked/SOB - scan the Lungs, then IVC, then Cardiac, then Extras". it's a simple way of figuring out in the resus room if the patient should have more fluids, and of ruling out obstructive and cardiogenic causes of shock. It's not perfect! But nothing ever is.
